I found some great new beauty goodies and I am in the process of trying them out.  This last weekend I found another gentle scrub for the face and after trying it, I really like it.  It is a little quicker to make then the body scrub and is a little gentler for the face area.

Josephine's Body Scrub

I love to pamper myself but it is a challenge to find a body scrub on the market that works well, smells good, and doesn't cost a small fortune.  Your choices are mostly limited to teenage sparkly fruity smelling concoctions or high dollar designer potions that aren't worth the fancy jar they come in.  This is a fabulous body scrub because it always leaves me feeling smooth and refreshed.

I mix mine in small batches and keep it in a medium size cosmetic jar I bought at The Container Store.  They are very inexpensive (the one I purchased was $1.49) and it will keep the scrub dry and fresh.

You will need:

1/4 a cup of brown rice
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon zest
1/2 a teaspoon of raw sugar (not the white refined stuff)
1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda

Grind the brown rice so that it is about the consistency of sand.  I use a coffee grinder to do mine and then just wipe it out when I am done so hubby's coffee doesn't taste funny.  Mix the remaining ingredients with the ground rice and store in an air tight container.  This is a dry scrub so when you are ready for your shower or bath, just wet your hands and pour a few tablespoons into them.  Work it into any place you need to slough off dry or dead skin.  It is fairly inexpensive to make so use it as liberally as you wish.  This is great on the feet and elbows.  For a truly decadent treat use this in a steaming hot bath and then add some olive oil to the water afterwards to moisturize.

Face Scrub

Take a pinch of raw sugar and a dash of olive oil.  Combine and then rub over clean face and then rinse with water.  You need to keep the water kind of warm to help work the olive oil into the skin and not have it get clumped up.

Edible Love Scrub

I stumbled on this recipe while I was searching the web for Valentine ideas for my hubby.  It's simple and yummy...mix equal parts of honey and sugar and use in a romantic bath as an exfoliater...and a condiment.  It's tasty for the tongue and mighty nice on the skin.  For some pizazz add just a drop of vanilla to the mixture.  Enjoy!
